Baja Trek Hostel-on-Wheels

Operating a retro-fitted, veggie oil-powered school bus with sleeping bunks, Baja Trek motors around the peninsula on trips of varying lengths. Hop on to see some of Baja's least-visited towns and wildernesses -- you can cross transportation, food, and accomodation off your worry list.

Focusing on community-based trips, Baja Trek might ask you to wash a few dishes here or there, but they've got your back in the long haul. Their mission is not only to get foreigners to understand the true Baja, but also to help support local businesses, charities, and initiatives. From championing Baja's wildernesses to helping feed it's orphans, and from picking out the best desolate beaches to the best tacos on the peninsula, Baja Trek, let by Captain Nico, always dreams of great things. If you let yourself get swept up and away by their trips, you probably won't regret it.

The Treks feature a variety of sleeping styles, from camping, to sleeping on the school bus's bunks, to staying in some of Baja's budget hostels. Food is vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free/everybody-friendly and is cooked in collaboration. Personal recipes are welcome. Facilities vary by trip, so make sure you're comfy with the arrangements before you pick a trip. Travel is vegetable oil-powered or offset by Carbon credits, and so completely guilt-free.

Other features: Camp showers, Camping gear and supplies, Sports equipment and games, First aid supplies, Meals, Baja Travel Info. Most Treks include a Backpackerbucks card which can be used for further discounts beyond Treks. English spoken.

Rates: From $47 USD per person per Trek. Price depends on trip length.

Location details: All Treks leave from the border in San Ysidro, just south of San Diego. Meet-up details are sent to those who register for a trek and pay the Trek Deposit.
